Tracked mini dump trucks move 500 to 1000 kg of material over soft ground and through passages a wheeled machine cannot take. Rubber tracks are the reason. On mud, on a wet excavation floor, on turf that has to look untouched when the crew leaves, these machines keep moving instead of sinking or cutting ruts. The TorqMax SDL line comes in three configurations: standard dump, lift dump with a 1.4m lifting height, and a rotary model with 180-degree rotation. Here is how contractors use each one on site in 2026.

1. Concrete and mortar transport

A 500kg tracked dumper like the SDL500 moves mixed concrete short distances on the site, from the mixer to the form. That trip used to belong to two people and a wheelbarrow. The skip does the rest. The tracked chassis crosses the wet ground around a pour without sinking, and the skip tips cleanly where the concrete is going in. On a typical slab job the mixer keeps producing, because nobody is standing around waiting for an empty barrow. If you already run a tracked concrete mixer, this is the machine that finishes the job, turning mixed concrete into placed concrete.

2. Excavated soil and rubble

Spoil is heavy and wet, and it is never where you want it. Tracked dumpers cross wet excavation floors without sinking, and rubber tracks protect finished ground and turf from ruts, which matters when the spoil run crosses a driveway or a lawn you would rather not repair afterwards. The standard-dump SDL500 does most of that work: load, track to the spoil pile, tip, and return. On a restricted urban site the same machine shuttles rubble to a skip at the curb, so nobody barrows it through the building by hand. If you are still weighing chassis types, our comparison of why tracked machinery beats wheeled equipment in mud and soft soil covers the traction and ground-pressure numbers behind the choice.

3. Lift and place

Height is the whole point of the SDL500L. Its bucket lifts to 1.4m, which is high enough to tip into hoppers, skips or raised forms that a standard dump cannot reach. We sell this configuration for feeding a concrete hopper on a multi-storey job, for filling a site skip with a high lip, and for placing material into raised planters and retaining-wall forms. The lift also lets the operator put material down where it is wanted, instead of dropping it out of a low skip and raking it into position afterwards.

4. Rotary dumping in tight lanes

The SDL500R rotates its skip 180 degrees, so the operator can dump to either side without repositioning the machine. In a trench, that is the difference between minutes and seconds. The machine travels the line once and empties both sides, and in a narrow corridor or between scaffold legs it never has to turn around at all. On repetitive placing work, the rotary configuration tends to show the fastest cycle-time gains of the three.

5. Heavy loads up to a ton

Bigger jobs need a bigger machine. The SDL1000L carries 1000kg with the same tracked stability and a lift bucket, and we build it for bulk materials, larger spoil volumes and heavier plant on soft or finished ground, where a wheeled machine at that payload would dig itself in.

Model Payload Main feature Best job
SDL500 500kg Standard hydraulic dump Concrete, spoil, general site shuttling
SDL500L 500kg 1.4m lift height Hopper/skip/raised-form feeding
SDL500R 500kg 180-degree rotary skip Trenches, corridors, tight lanes
SDL1000L 1000kg Heavy lift dump Bulk material, larger spoil

Choosing the right configuration

Two things decide the configuration: where the material has to end up, and how heavy the heaviest load is. Material that goes up into a hopper, a skip or a raised form wants the lift model. Material that goes sideways into a trench or a corridor wants the rotary. If neither applies, the standard dump is the economical workhorse, and it is the one most crews should buy. On weight, step up to the 1000kg model once daily loads sit near the 500kg limit. Running a machine at maximum on every trip wears the running gear and leaves no margin on wet ground.

Questions we get asked

Can a mini dump truck cross wet ground?

Yes. Rubber tracks are built for mud, wet excavation floors and soft soil, which is exactly where a wheeled machine digs in. The contact patch is long and the ground pressure stays low, so the machine keeps moving with a load on board. A pour can carry on in weather that would stop a wheeled dumper.

What is the difference between lift dump and rotary dump?

Lift dump raises the skip so it can tip into hoppers, skips or raised forms. Rotary dump turns the skip 180 degrees instead, which puts material on either side without repositioning it. Choose the lift when the material has to go up, the rotary when it has to go sideways, and the standard dump when neither is needed.

How much can a tracked mini dumper carry?

The SDL line runs from 500kg to 1000kg, depending on the model. The SDL500, SDL500L and SDL500R all carry 500kg, and the letters describe how the skip moves rather than how much it holds. The SDL1000L carries 1000kg. Those are factory ratings, so keep loads inside them, especially on soft ground.

Will rubber tracks damage turf, paving or finished surfaces?

Rubber tracks spread the machine's weight over a long contact patch, so ground pressure stays low and ruts are minimal next to a laden wheelbarrow or a wheeled dumper. On delicate turf, avoid tight pivot turns while loaded and keep to a single repeated route. That is the usual practice on finished turf and municipal work.

Are these machines available for OEM/ODM?

Yes. Skip size, engine and branding can be adapted to your market for distributors and fleet buyers. Send us the payload, the material and the market you sell into, and we will come back with the configuration and the pricing behind it. That covers branding, skip size and engine choice.
